Olympian was founded by three-time world champion and US Olympian, Velizar Iliev with the intention of making epee fencing center stage in San Antonio. Numerous colleges and universities offer scholarships for skilled fencers. In addition, most high school physical education (PE) guidelines allow high school students to satisfy their PE credits through outside physical sports like fencing.
Olympian encourages all students to participate in competitions nationwide, including the Summer Nationals as well as International World Cup tournaments. Numerous local and regional tournaments are available as well, allowing all levels of fencers to compete and gain valuable experience.
All class levels include any age range and gender. Class levels are arranged by age incorporated with skill level. Head to our Contact page and send us a message requesting more info and forms for Beginner’s or Little Olympian classes.
Learn the Olympic sport of Epee fencing through a combination of games, drills, and exercises targeted to young children. Students build confidence, coordination, speed, good sportsmanship, and basic fencing tactics through this weekly fencing program. Students practice their skills in fencing matches initially with foam swords and then advance to full electric fencing gear.
Our beginners fencing program teaches the fundamentals of epee fencing including the fencing en guard stance, how to warm up properly, footwork, tactics, and basic blade actions. The first portion of class includes warm up, footwork, and blade technique drills. The second half is dedicated to bouting (electric fencing in full gear).
The beginners program allows students to attend unlimited fencing classes in their age group for a full calendar month. This program includes equipment rental, group instruction with a coach to learn the fundamentals, and the assignment of a member “buddy” to help guide the beginner through our classes.
The schedule* of classes by age group is listed below. We have two separate recreational classes for fencers under 12 years old, however, for new beginners 12 years and under we combine the beginners groups for the first half of the month starting at 5pm. After two weeks they are split into their separate classes as shown in the schedule below.
Attend unlimited classes throughout the month and fall in love with epee fencing!
