Olympian Fencing Club is proud to announce 5 national medalists and 1 national champion from this year’s USA Fencing Summer National Championships in Milwaukee, Wisconsin! Coach Tommi Hurme won the Veterans 40 Men’s Epee national championship, finishing the season ranked #1 nationally while also qualifying for the Veterans World Championships Team in Bahrain this November.
Vivian Young won several decisive matches to make the finals in the Cadet Women’s Epee event which had 243 competitors.
Cathy Kelley finished with a bronze medal in the Veterans 70 Women’s Epee competition narrowly losing to the gold medalist by a few touches.
UIW Head Coach John Moreau was first out of pools for his Veterans 70 Men’s Epee event and finished with a silver medal losing to Tim Glass.
Coach Tommi participated in a Veteran’s Men’s Epee team with fellow Texas fencer Nicholas Hallman finishing with the silver medal in a competitive veteran men’s epee team event. They defeated strong teams from New York and the Tri-State Area before ultimately falling to the team from East Bay Fencing Club.
